Jack

Hitting the road so hard tomorrow morning that even Jack would be happy. Leaving for Savannah by 9 in the morning. Hopefully will get there by 1 and have a good part of the afternoon to roam the streets until our lovely concert. Edie Carey is on the menu. The girl is so excited. I don’t think she cares about having a nice weekend away with me and the pup. More excited about Edie. The 2nd love of her life.

I’m ok with taking back seat for the weekend. Tons of photos will be taken with the pup. Ice cream is amazing.

Catch me on Monday.

Hit the road jack…

Self Abuse

October 24th, 2006 § 1

Low 40’s and winds up to 20mph. What the hell am I doing out on the road at 1:30pm. Self abuse. Roadie miles. Riding the white line and trying not to get blown over. Amazing how stiff you get after a cold ride. Amazing how wonderful knee warmers are. Amazing how well the road bike plays the part of a cross bike.

Amazing.

Riding roadie miles. Riding tires until they fray apart. Riding through mud and corn fields. Riding through western North Carolina.

Two more days up here & then I shall return home for a little while longer. Savannah is on the radar this weekend. Leaving Saturday & returning Sunday. Edie Carey. Road trip with the girl and pup. Sing-a-longs. Smooches by the water.

Amazing.

Busy if you haven’t noticed. This coming week is the last week I’ll be out of town for 4 days straight. Last week was a bit crazy between work & all the crappy weather that was had in Western NC. I rode but I don’t remember much other than that. Don’t remember which days, I do remember there was some squishy bikes that were ridden & a certain 29er that was taken apart for the time being. Once I was home last week and this week I was in front of the computer doing paper work and figuring out a design for Arleigh’s. The design is almost completely done. All I need to do is finish up some of the pages but the meat of the site is there.

This week I hope to get some roadie miles in. Replace the tires that are slowly wearing out on the Cannondale & find something suitable laying around the shop that can take true base miles on shitty NC roads. Other than riding there is more paper work and running around to be had. All in good time will I settle down and life around me will become more normal.

Birthday is around the corner folks. I have a bunch of twin six threads, birkenstocks & various other goodness on my birthday list. Get cracking!!

Zoning

Thursday already. Three day weekend coming in 2.5 hours. Many plans this weekend, but then none all at the same time. Car needs cleaned and oil changed. Pup needs run and loved after a long 4 days away from her mum. The girl needs love and tlc as she has a cold. There is a short track race up in Asheville that my singlespeed partner in crime & I are going to race. Hopefully the girl & pup will be attending as well. It is a 3 hour short track team event. SOO basically Taryn & I will be riding around in fast circles getting dizzy for 3 hours. I might end up building up a certain pink single swizzle back up for the event. We’ll see how that goes.

There is many photos to upload and people to email when I get home tonight. We’ll see how it goes. I’m still trying to sit on simmer after the past couple weeks drama running around western North Carolina. Rumor is it will be moving this weekend and be gone from this time zone.

Oh yes – in need of a sweet full suspension, living room furniture or maybe a car? Check out mel’s blog.

Been having an interesting last couple weeks. If you happened to catch that post that I deleted last week you’ll have a bit of insight into things. Living between two homes isn’t too bad but it is a bit different. Three days a week I am living out of a suitcase, with bike in hand. I don’t regret it. “It” being the decision I made back in the beginning of September. I enjoy the mountains more than I thought I ever would. House hunting is underway & I hope job hunting for a certain lady. I’ve found stability even though my weekly life is unstable. Figure that one out because I know I’m having issues with it.

Had a good weekend with friends & the lovely woman. Quality drive time with the pup & movie time cuddling. Ride time after dark with no lights & a little bit of painting on some pants. It was a good weekend. I forgot what weekends were. Always having to split them up over a week had become a thing of something normal.

This week leads me to road miles & maybe some jogging in a certain national forest. Remembered to bring my true trail shoes, not just my bumming Nike’s. Forgetting about some pain & lies that have come my way in the month of October.

Oh yes. Congrats to a certain single speed viking that I know. Way to rock it rich!

I finally got around to trying that whole running thing. A short and sweet 2 mile trail run/walk in the base of Pisgah. The running wasn’t so bad. I need to work on remembering to breathe but my legs felt fine during and after. It was more walking and shuffling then anything else but I don’t believe I had been running more than a mile in probably close to two years. Tomorrow night I plan on running with the lovely pup pictured above. See how that goes & then if all goes well run/walk the Race for the Cure on Saturday. A few months ago I was all gong-hoe about the race. I had running scheduled into the beginning of September for training for cyclocross. But then…

What happened? Oh yes, I changed jobs and quazi moved. Running & even riding up till a couple weeks ago was the last thought on my mind. I went two weeks with out touching my bike. I became a crank-fest. Ok I became a biatch. I’m doing much better though or atleast I would like to think so. Trying to be normal reliable Arleigh. I think most of that is due to the fact that I’ve been riding pretty consistently. Hopefully I’ll get back on the bike Friday for a juant around Beatty or Catawba & then again on Sunday.

A race is in the works for next Saturday so keep your eye on the screen over the next day or two to see what’s going on. Don’t be surprised to get an email from me in your inbox seeing if you would like to go.

The rest of October is taken. Then it will be November. Damn.

Threw together a blog for co-worker & friend, Dave Hall. He’s one of those fast as hell cyclist and does almost of all of it as a pro. (Cyclocross, Road & Mountain)
Check out his blog, link him, forward him, heckle him.

I’m Dave Hall

Oh yes. He also is a cycling coach. That’s our next project to get him a real website, but we are starting with baby steps for now.

One issue with posting photos is I never can remember which ones I have put up.

Adventure racing. A little bit of water. A little bit of mountain biking & throw in a bit of running for good measure. Reading a compass & getting lost in the woods. Sounds like something I would enjoy. Other than the running part.

Who has done it? I was sent an email last week from someone that follows my blog. There is a skills clinic & race coming up in November geared towards getting women into adventure racing. Location is TN & it is the weekend before my birthday. Check it out.

Where am I?
