Busy Day Off

Wednesday is my day off, or should be.  The month of May is a crazy one and I'm doing my best to get the shop ready for it.  So far we've got : Go By Bike Month, a month long sale, group rides, demo days and a large Ladies Night Out. I'll let the flyers talk for themselves so I can go shower and get ready as it's race day today! (Yes I'm racing at Francis Beatty tonight)

2009 Huntersville Kids Tri #1

I was quick to talk about lacrosse in my previous post and completely forgot to add in that the first Huntersville Kids Tri was Saturday evening.  121 kids were out in full force for the first race of the series and I'm stoked to say both the boys raced and did awesome! Drew finished 2nd by only 3 seconds off 1st!  We had a slight incident of tripping through the finish line.. We need to work on our swim and he'll be winning for sure next time. Matthew (the fish) came in 6th but looking at his splits he did well every where.  There were a lot of kids on the course during his race so the bike wasn't his strong suit but practice will make perfect but he came 1st in the run! The best part of this is the fact it was 4 hours after their lacrosse game in the heat on Saturday morning.

Lacrosse Weekend

Media_httparsbarscomw_gztxi

A weekend full of lacrosse games with the boys.  They play for a Mooresville team called Lake Norman United. Their first game was at home on Saturday they won to 11-2, both boys scored I can't remember exact numbers but they did great.  Sunday we traveled to south Charlotte and tied 5-5.   It was a full weekend.   Lake Norman United or United is in it's second year I believe.  The coaches are awesome and it seems like there is a lot of experience through out the league.  Lacrosse is still picking up down here in the south, nothing at all like it was back in Maryland.  Maybe one day.

What a Week

Migraines, arguments and a stressful week.  I can't pinpoint anything but I can say that this week wasn't one of my best. Thankfully it's Friday and this weekend is one off.  Lacrosse games, bike rides and relaxation are to be had.  That's really all I have to offer for this post.  My camera is dead and I'm still hunting down my charger. It's gotta be in this house somewhere.. Oh, and I'm lusting after this $175 jersey

Inspiration for the Day

A good part of the day was a drag thanks to lights being out at the shop, and a blaring headache left over from last nights sinus/head pain.  Around lunch time I was bit by the inspiration bug and started rearranging our kids area.  I hope in the next month or so to start pushing that section of our shops business.  Group rides, bikes on display and maybe looking into other things we can be doing to get kids on bikes! Random inspiration I found at LockedCog.com Inspired. Danny MacAskill from dave on Vimeo.

Bike Riding

Media_httparsbarscomw_xyljv
Shitty picture but you get the idea.  Combined a Surly 1x1 and an Electra Gigi for Kim's uber cool pink/white cruiser bike.   Took off Saturday afternoon from the house down to Davidson and Cornelius, NC.  Great biking towns, a lot of fun things to see and fried chicken to eat!  We stopped by a local grocer, picked up fried chicken and a couple different salads, then headed off to the elementary school.  The school is in downtown Cornelius and has huge trees, a cool playground and a safe place to sit outside to chow down. We ended up tooling around a couple neighborhoods, stopping by a friends house, drinking a margarita and getting home right before daylight was gone.

Warning

The blog is going through random design updates.  Thanks to spending so much time lately on TheCyclistSite.com I've been tweaking designs, looking at too much typography and color charts. Don't know what that means for Arsbars, but we'll get there. For now go see our Sea Otter coverage!

True Story

Two construction workers (CW) walked into the shop this morning. One of the part timers (Cheryl) tried her best to help them.. then I got to step in. CW: Bike racks, ya got them? Cheryl : Sure we have car mounted ones over here. CW: No, the kind to put your bike on the floor Cheryl : We have these over here that hold up your rear wheel. CW: No, for outside, bike racks. Cheryl :We don't stock them... Arleigh : There are a couple outside next to our building if you want to look at those. CW : Oh.  Looks like no one ever uses those. Arleigh: I lock my bike out there about once a week, they work well.CW:  Where are you riding from? Arleigh: Mooresville. CW: How do you even get here?Arleigh: Down 115 or 21 through Huntersville CW: That's crazy you go by my house, that roads not ridable.  I'll put my dogs out there next time you go by. Arleigh : Your dogs will either get sprayed or kicked in the face if you do. CW: Grumble.  You don't belong on those roads. Arleigh : Sorry you feel that way. Douche.

I think I'm finally on the right drug of choice to keep my head unclugged and throat not gagging. Anyways go over to TheCyclistSite.com and see what the "big" project for the past month has been.

Plan for Race Day V2.0

Media_httpfarm4static_qlkac
Still not sleeping at night, trying new drugs after lunch today if I still feel cruddy.  Maybe the commute into the shop this morning will clear out the junk in my trunk chest. If by Thursday night I haven't had a solid night's sleep I'll be pulling the plug totally on the below and going out to be support. Here's my latest plan for Saturday's Grind on the Freakin' Greenway. Borrow a Trek Fuel EX 8 demo bike in size 18.5, with back up bike being my Trek hardtail.  This allows for three things. 1: Gears and suspension. Completely opposite of first plan, gotta keep those ladies on their toes. 2: I don't need to loose sleep tonight building my single speed up. 3: More pimpage of the store and company I work for. Anyways, I'm off to blow my nose some more, make my lunch and then get on my bike to ride to work.
