Triathlete in the Works

[gallery link="file" order="DESC"] Early runs, lake swims and even some core work in the gym.  You can say that my 1st sprint triathlon put the state of my condition, or lack of it, in perspective.  Thanks to all for the kind words and helpful advice.  Time to get ready for the next one.

Checklist for my 1st Sprint Triathlon

Media_httpbikeshopgir_ddwfe
My first sprint triathlon is this coming Sunday.  If un-prepared is part of the training regimen I am right on course for an awesome first tri!  Sure I had goals and plans of doing the whole 8 weeks to your first sprint tri but life, work and excuses got in the way.  The one small advantage I have is the fact I work with 3 elite-level triathlon who have a bounty of knowledge.

SIGG Bottles, Maybe Not So Safe

Media_httpbikeshopgir_ldooo
Furious blog entries and news articles are popping up across the internet that SIGG, known for their BPA free bottles weren't so BPA free prior to August 2008.   If you remember that SIGG was one of the few bottles out there that parents were trusting their kids to drink out of when they were throwing away all their other bottles like Nalgene's.
Now SIGG has gone public with an announcement that all of their bottles are completely BPA free, thanks to their new "EcoCare" powder-based, co-polyester coating. But Steve Wasik now admits that bottles made previous to August, 2008 were lined with a water-based epoxy liner which contained trace amounts of BPA. Was I misled last year? When I wrote that it's Time to Pack In the Polycarbonates, was suggesting people get a SIGG instead bad advice?

Women's Shopping Experience Better but Not Great

Media_httpfarm4static_dsaba
The shopping experience is getting better in the cycling industry for women. For the past few years it has been drilled in to retailers heads by manufacturers and industry representatives.   Women do make up the majority of buying decision in the average household and women do like to shop.  Seeing that most bike shops are male driven we don't have to wonder why it is intimidating to go in and talk about spandex, bike shorts or colors of bikes with the guys.  Most of them can't get it, because they aren't a girl!

What's in Your Bag?

Media_httpbikeshopgir_hvked
A common question seems to be : What's in your bicycle bag? The bag they are referring to could be my seat bag found under most of my saddles, one of my messenger type bags slung over my back on the way to work or the store, or maybe my Camelbak on the way to the local mountain bike trail.
