Kittens, Puppies and Rainbows

Life is crazy this week, I am behind on Reverb 10 already and I hope to be able to take a lunch hour to catch up with this! For uplifting and positive vibes here are two photos from my weekend. Quinn watching the snow fall in Charlotte after we trimmed the tree.  (Crazy it snowed in December!)

Sophie, one of our Christmas kittens.  They aren't ready to go home, but we have been visiting them every chance we can!

Reverb 10 : Thinking of Dying

This post is part of my Reflections of 2010 through out December with the help of  #Reverb10.
The third prompt of Reverb 10 :
Moment. Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors).

Thinking of Dying, Makes You Feel the Most Alive

Media_httpfarm2static_ddhzi

Anyone that reads this blog or Bike Shop Girl knows what moment in the past year has made me feel the most alive.  It is the moment that my bicycle and a car plowing through all of it, when I questioned my life and my reasoning, that is the moment I felt most alive.

Reverb10 : One Word

Media_httpfarm6static_gqsft
I've signed myself up for #Reverb10.
Reverb 10 is an annual event and online initiative to reflect on your year and manifest what’s next. The end of the year is an opportunity to reflect on what's happened, and to send out reverberations for the year ahead. With Reverb 10, we'll do both.   This December we invite you to share your story and join us in reflection.   Join at Reverb10.com
The first prompt: "Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you? (Author: Gwen Bell)"

Forgotten Loves

There is much to say, but there never seems enough time to say it or type it or share it.  Every time I sit down to post a longer article or a full thought, it gets stalled and I only have time to share it with the Twitter world. Twitter is only 140 characters so thoughts are able to be short! Last night I went riding at North Meck, or North Root as some folks will call it.   It is s a local 3.5 mile loop, one of the few that can be ridden either direction and at night!   It was perfect testing ground for my recently modded 23 lb Karate Monkey (another post for tomorrow.)   If I can ride this trail comfortably rigid then I'll be able to ride any of the local trails or semi-local trails.

After checking out the cyclocross scene, and eating a chocolate chip waffle with whip creme, Dean "Butterbean" came out of the woodwork and we went to the parking lot to put our lights on.

Within 12.4333 pedal strokes, I was reminded of multiple things.

  1. I love single speed mountain biking.  Absolutely love it.  If I have a choice going forward, this is my choice.  Need to work on my lower back strength and core stability.. but its worth it.
  2. I love night riding.  It is my favorite part of mountain biking by far and I hope to count in the dozens how many night rides I get this fall/winter/spring
  3. The funky handlebar style that On-One Mary Bars, Origin8 (currently running) Space Bar, or Misfit FuBar (currently on my fixie) are so comfortable, especially combined with Ergon grips. Riding riding a fully rigid never felt so good.
Thanks to the overcast skies and sprinkling of rain on and off for the next 24 hours, as predicted by Weather.com, I don't believe I'll be able to night ride tonight or tomorrow.   That's okay, I have other things to do.

Filmography

My new favorite words to use of late are "filmography" and "delectable."  The photo above uses both words.   I love the lense effect and feel of the photo. A side note: Congrats to Alicia on her new baby!

Uptown Charlotte

Media_httparsbarscomw_zetui
How I miss living Uptown Charlotte.  A quick visit to NoDa last Friday left me yearning for the lights and culture that suburbia is lacking.
